Welcome to Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in Woking, Guildford and Godalming

The answer is Yes... (you were wondering, were you not)?

Yes…here is hope

Yes…things can get better

Yes… your wish to feel good about yourself can come true

The good news is You are already enough

The bad news is that You are just not feeling it at the moment

It’s not easy being human and there is no shame in the struggle.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN TO ANSWER.

Are you tired of feeling like this?

Do you imagine how great your life could be without this feeling?

Would it be a shame to lose any more time?

Would you like to get started with making changes?

Want to schedule an initial assessment session?

These feelings dampen your joy and satisfaction, and most unfortunately, your happiness. But it doesn’t have to be that way and you are not the only one to have faced these same challenges. Typically, it is because we pick up faulty messages somewhere along the way and end up distorting our true capabilities and our worthiness. The truth is: You don’t have to continue responding to these thoughts and feelings this way because skills are available to help you respond differently to them.

How I Work

Not all people experience emotional difficulties in the same way and may not want the same kind of help, and not everyone may feel ready or wish to delve deeper into their past. My broad training allows me to draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches to tailor our work together to suit your personal needs. My particular area of expertise lies in working with people to help them understand their emotions and the way they react. I will support and empower you to help you identify what is helpful to ultimately reach your goals

Counselling

Counselling can reduce the chances of being pushed back by life’s challenges and offers you the opportunity to talk to someone who will not judge you and will accept you for who you are. It provides a confidential environment where you can talk about your past and present personal, family, relationships and life issues.

Counselling gives you the freedom to explore your feelings, enhances your self-awareness and allows you to work towards acceptance. This will be done in your own time, when you feel comfortable to do so, and there will be no demands placed on you on what you have to talk about. Together, we can untangle the confusion, make changes or find ways to cope and resolve your difficulties.

You do not have to feel desperate, or be experiencing a crisis, before making a choice to attend counselling. You may want to find meaning in your life, be looking for a balance in your life or just feeling dissatisfied with life in general. Please get in touch with me via my Contact Me page.

For further information on my qualifications please see my About Me page.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Not all people experience emotional difficulties in the same way and may not want the same kind of help, and not everyone may feel ready or wish to delve deeper into their past. My broad training allows me to tailor our work together to suit your personal needs. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is suitable for individuals who are only seeking practical strategies that can be used in everyday life situations after the treatment has ended. CBT helps us understand how our thoughts, feelings, what we do and how our body feels, influences how we perceive our situations. CBT develops new thinking styles and behaviours to address specific problems more effectively. CBT provides the support needed to change problematic thinking styles and behaviour patterns so we can feel better. This approach tends to focus predominantly on relieving and reducing the symptoms of the problem. CBT has a sound evidence base for a wide range of mental health problems such as Anxiety, Depression, Panic Attacks, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Phobias, Social Anxiety, Addictions, Self Esteem, Anger Management and other mental and physical health problems. This approach is offered by the NHS and is recommended by the NICE guidelines.

Please get in touch with me via my Contact Me page.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a powerful, evidence-based model that has been used successfully in treating various issues such as anxiety, depression addiction and relationships problems.  ACT is an evidence-based approach referred to as third-wave behavioural therapy. ACT incorporates aspects of mindfulness (being in the present moment), willingness, acceptance strategies, values-based work and committed action to allow individuals to live a more meaningful life by

  • Clarifying what's truly important and meaningful (our values) and using that knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate us to do those things that: will enrich and enhance our life; and
  • Learn skills that enable us to handle difficult thoughts and feelings effectively to engage fully in whatever we are doing. Please get in touch with me via my Contact Me page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session gives you the chance to see if I might be the right therapist for you, and for you to see whether my style of counselling feels right for you. It gives you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have, before making any commitment. It is very important that you feel comfortable with the therapist you choose. My role as a therapist during this session is to get to know you, understand who you are, listen to why you have come, why you are the way you are and what you might need from therapy.

Together, we will work collaboratively to identify your concerns and help you decide whether you want to work on one particular subject, which might be creating a current problem.

How long is each therapy session?

Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes, but can be adjusted based on individual needs.

Do you offer online therapy sessions?

Following a severe bout of depression, which resulted in a suicide attempt, I had given up hope of ever finding a way to live a manageable life. I had been through all kinds of treatment and seen numerous counsellors over 15 years, all of which had failed to kick start any long term periods of positivity. But my experience with Patsy Edmonds was completely different, and I cannot thank her enough for what she has done.

I was offered 12 weeks of counselling through Catalyst in Surrey, and Patsy Edmonds was assigned to counsel me. Her approach was extremely compassionate and I felt very comfortable right away. I arrived in such a negative state of mind and hated myself for all the mistakes I had made; but Patsy helped me to see past that and start thinking in a positive light. Each week my mood, desire to use and negative views of myself became less and less, and with Patsy's help I began to focus on the positives within me. She gave me hope, and helped it to get bigger and bigger each week. Patsy also told me about certain techniques and ways to manage my thoughts or triggers, and these have helped immensely.

By the end of the 12 weeks I didn't want to say goodbye, as Patsy was such a positive influence and key part to the turnaround I had experienced. I can honestly say I would have killed myself if I didn't meet Patsy; she is and will always be a lifesaver to me. - Male age 36
